I took a day off yesterday to recalibrate after a January that felt like being a jockey at Ascot.

It was such a super day! YAY! And it fell on the exact same day that Jules and I, 3 years ago, shared a weekend filled with running, hiking, supping, laughing and soul filled time together that was in a way life changing for her and one for the books for us. The real stuff you remember at 90!

A call from the girls to go hiking first thing, was a good tonic of witty banter and fresh air, void of any business and a reminder that I need to brush up on my fynbos plant and flower species!

We tried out the restaurant in Natures Valley afterward for a light lunch, that recently had a change of ownership, and is now worth a visit. I can recommend it, but I can’t remember its name! (Blue Rocks Cafe - see their super reviews)

I then met with Mike, historian and writer to discuss my Plett Perspectives: Pop-Up Museum project - the knowledge of these human gems is jaw dropping and inspiring.

I’m thrilled to say January’s objectives have been met with key stakeholders in place, dates and most importantly we have the venue for it in town. I’m happy to say it will be hosted at The White House, a historical building in Plett, from 20 - 29 September ‘24 and we have access to information and archives. Tick!

February’s project mission is now underway for budgets, content direction and team, as well as sponsorship and funding drive. I am looking for an administrator if anyone knows a person.

A visit to my bees filled my heart with honey in the afternoon, as my first removal hive is buzzing and happy! This weekend I will rehive them and move another hive to my apiary.

Then I played an inaugural game of Pickleball with the bridge ladies! Great fun, great game and a new sport I think we will get into on the horizon! There are new courts at Down to Earth on the lagoon. Thanks Debs and Sharon ! Thanks Brene Brown that I even know what pickleball is and guess what it has a “kitchen” on the court!

Ian and I went for a sundowner at our favourite celebratory spot at The Plettenberg followed by an exceptionally flavourful dinner at the new portugese restaurant- Do Coracao.

He leaves today to go ice driving in Norway with Jordan and Luke on a father and son’s bucket list trip!

As our diaries this year are focused on so much we have going on work-wise, we have made certain we have carved-in moments of togetherness to celebrate each other and what we share, when we have the opportunity to be in the same place. Coming with a full heart to celebrate makes it even more meaningful and memorable.

I realised when I got to bed last night - more often than not we land up forced to take sick days because our bodies are exhausted, unwell or toxic. It’s a consequence we face mostly as a result of stress. This year I’m adamant in making well days, to do things that make my heart happy, free my mind and focus on life, friendships, activities, hobbies and stuff that makes you feel alive, but that most of all is important and that you are actually well enough to do it. Don’t get me wrong when you love your job like I do, it’s not work, it’s passion. But separating yourself from it consuming you gives you time to recharge, change gears and brainwaves for better thought action, clarity, perspective and my best ideas that help problem solve. It gives me pleasure recognising that we are capable of different energy and we get it through and from different things.

I guess what sits for the rest of the weekend is gratitude really and time with my little grey cat!

Don’t forget to look up. It’s also good for your neck. So is getting off the racehorse if you have saddle bite!
